Responsibilities and Qualifications

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

Maintains manufacturing operations through the performance of machine maintenance and troubleshooting.

SHIFT: 7pm-7am Fri, Sat, Sun & every other Thu + overtime as needed (training will likely be on a weekday shift)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

(Experience, education, licenses, certifications, and general knowledge, skills and abilities.)

1+ years as a Mfg Associate 5 (adjuster) or equivalent mechanical experience

  • 1+ years' experience in a mechanical maintenance role, preferably in a manufacturing environment

  • Demonstrated above average mechanical ability

  • Training and/or experience in a machine shop or knowledge of metal working machining and processes

  • Ability to operate surface grinder, polish dies and sharpen knives

  • Demonstrated effective written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership/organizational skills

  • Ability to work cooperatively with a minimum of supervision

  • Ability to weld, braze, and solder all types of metals (steel, aluminum, etc…) with proficiency.

  • Ability to rivet

  • Experience grinding, filing, and threading metal

  • Basic welding skills

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE CAPABILITIES

  • Electronic experience or education

  • Knowledge of/experience in pneumatics, hydraulics, welding

  • Tinsmith experience

  • Personal computer skills

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

(Fundamental duties necessary to achieve the objective of the position)

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, repair manufacturing equipment

  • Perform basic machine shop work - drilling, tapping, sawing, grinding

  • Able to sketch simple parts and read basic blue prints

  • Demonstrates above average mechanical ability, including troubleshooting skill and ability to identify source of process related problems

  • Ability to train other people that have a variety of skill levels

  • Capable of doing all setups and changeovers on production equipment in the assigned area

  • Able to use precision measuring instruments such as micrometer, caliper, and dial indicators

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities in the areas of safety, personal discipline, and positive customer service attitude

Physical Requirements:

Majority of the time is spent identifying the problems that need repair by listening and talking with other associates. Frequent lifting up to 10 pounds with occasional lifting, pushing, and pulling of weights up to 50 pounds. Stooping/Kneeling/Crouching/Crawling required for carpet installation and/or cement work. Must have normal depth perception capability.

Mental Requirements:

Reading and attention to detail required. Basic math required to read blueprints and working on lathe. Must be flexible and have the ability to cope with stress from multiple job assignments and deadlines, as well as constant interruptions from the telephone and beeper.

Working Environment:

Incumbent subject to fumes, dirt, dust, mist and gases when in plant. Regular production floor work causes exposure to mechanical/electrical equipment hazards as well as burning material (welding). Some time spent doing maintenance outdoors, thus exposure to temperature changes and wetness is inevitable. Approximately 50% of the time spent work with or around others.
