Responsibilities and Qualifications

The VP, Marketing & Product Management continuously shapes CamelBak’s position in the marketplace by defining the consumers and end markets the brand will serve and by connecting the brand with its users through innovative programs, communications, and products that are relevant and that carry an emotional resonance. This role manages global marketing strategy for the brand, channels of distribution, and ongoing product management. The VP, Marketing & Product Management is responsible for providing both leadership and management to CamelBak’s marketing and product management teams, along with hands on involvement in working with Operations and R&D to optimize cost, speed, and quality in CamelBak’s new product development processes, and with Sales to ensure seamless and world class product launch execution. The VP, Marketing & Product Management is responsible for developing and hitting relevant OPEX budgets and for the overall financial performance (sales and margin) of each product portfolio and channel of distribution.

Product Management:

  • Lead CamelBak’s new product management teams and product management strategy

  • Oversee the successful implementation of stage gate processes ensuring product management projects are executed on time and on budget

  • Define and execute CamelBak’s overall product strategies

  • Optimizing revenue and profit within existing categories

  • Effective lifecycle management to reduce SKU count and mitigate E and O

  • Define strategies to enter relevant adjacent categories

  • Work cross functionally to further define defendable product differentiation across all categories. Answering the question “What makes a product a CamelBak?”

  • Organizational development

  • Top grading of product management team

  • Resource planning to structure the team to best support overall business strategies

  • Product launch effectiveness

  • Develop necessary processes to align all relevant functions to ensure that new product launches are fully supported across the whole marketing mix and within the intended channels of distribution.

  • Process Improvement: The VP, Marketing & Product Management is expected to drive continuous process improvement in the company’s product management processes:

  • Establishment of annual global product summit process and ongoing NPI project review

  • Install Research and VOC methodologies to improve new product hit rates

  • Work with Finance to establish financial metrics to better determine the success and performance of existing product portfolios as well as the payback of proposed new projects

  • Work cross functionally with other Sr. Leaders to develop plans to reduce product development lead times.

  • Work with the head of R and D to maintain a consistent and relevant innovation pipeline that will actively feed into the product road

Brand Marketing:

  • Ownership of marketing strategy, plans, execution and budget for the overall Marketing team

  • Set marketing and brand strategies based on business goals and an understanding of consumers’ needs, segmentation, as well as insight/input from the consumer and competitive landscape

  • Provide leadership and support in the development of joint ventures, affiliations and partnership arrangements

  • Oversee and lead CamelBak’s marketing teams including:

  • International Marketing: provide strategic guidance for international marketing to ensure athletes, events, advertising are on-brand and consistent globally

  • Creative services: messaging and strategy to ensure that output is consistent with product

  • Retail & Tradeshow Marketing: ensure consistent product messaging in all collateral, trade show booths, retail display signage, event signage

  • Events/Promotions: elevate marketing programs to align with GTM strategy at events

  • Public Relations: global product messaging is innovative while consistent in press kits, mailings, outreach strategy

  • Digital Marketing: ensure consistent product messaging in all online and social content

  • Produce and manage marketing budgets, ensuring programs are delivered on time and on budget

  • Manage External agency and partner relationships

Channel Marketing:

  • Re-Organize current resource pool to establish the Channel Marketing roles to ensure successful product launches and promotional execution

  • Actively manage product listing and line review schedules

  • Work collaboratively with brand and product teams to develop effective and coordinated launch plans

  • Determine necessary selling tools and support across the channels to drive sell in and sell through of Camelback products

  • Develop necessary expertise to penetrate new channels of distribution as overall business strategy dictates

  • Industrial/Commercial markets

  • Team Sports

  • DTC Custom products

Position Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree required, MBA preferred

  • 10+ years in and outdoor and/or consumer durables required

  • 10+ years in a management capacity, within a Marketing function

  • Experience with P&L as executive manager; senior manager; or general manager; developing talent; team building

  • Proven track record of strategic thinking and creative marketing initiatives and significant experience evaluating strategy and creative work

  • Successful candidate will have experience marketing to multiple consumer target audiences, preferably in the outdoor industry and lifestyle markets as well as various distribution channels from specialty to mass.

  • Excellent communication skills – both written and oral

  • Demonstrated ability to lead marketing teams to create and execute creative and effective marketing programs, with demonstrated ROI

  • Experience creating strong, collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners as well as outside agencies

  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills

  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines

  • Good judgment and business acumen with the ability to make timely and sound decisions

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office programs, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
