Responsibilities and Qualifications

This Role is responsible for the supervision of daily machining operations for assigned units. Duties include: scheduling production, monitoring productivity, resolving problems, supervision of personnel, and other similar duties pertaining to manufacturing operations.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Thorough knowledge of machining functions involving a thorough trades knowledge and the application of basic theory, equal to 2 years college.

  • Over 3 years up to and including 5 years of progressive learning experience.

  • High School Diploma

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee, direct and coordinate the daily machining operations as assigned. Develop daily/weekly production schedules. Allocate available personnel to accomplish both routine work and high priority jobs.

  • Monitor production, productivity (through put), and quality and ensure established standards are maintained. Respond to operational and/or technical problems and resolve.

  • Analyze operations, processes, procedures, etc. and make recommendations to appropriate personnel to maximize efficiencies.

  • Administer the daily functioning of assigned units. Implement and ensure proper methods and procedures are employed. Enforce safety rules and regulations and ensure required safety equipment is utilized.

  • Monitor employee time and attendance records. Detect trends in attendance and take require actions within the limits of established policy and/or contract provisions.

  • Handle disciplinary situations according to established policy. Ensure the proper training, cross-training and/or re-training of personnel.

  • Maintain a working liaison with other departments. Confer with engineering personnel regarding new products, product modifications, process changes, etc. Work with maintenance personnel to schedule maintenance or repair work. Confer with QA and/or purchasing personnel of parts and materials problems.

  • Hire, train, assign and check work of subordinates as to company policy and procedures, methods and practices, standards of performance and other matters affecting their work. Detect substandard performance and take appropriate corrective actions. Evaluate performance of subordinates and confer with supervisor on personnel or other matters affecting subordinates.

  • Perform other similar duties as required by responsibility or necessity or as requested by supervisor.

SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

Duties require effective verbal communications skills, visual acuity to written materials as well as production/product details, and the physical ability to move and work in a factory environment.

Thorough knowledge of operations of CNC machines

Physical Requirements :

Considerable standing and walking on even and un-even surfaces throughout the shop floor. Must have the ability to lift tools and equipment up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity for use of hand and power operated tools.

Mental Requirements :

Strong analytical and problem solving skills required. Must be flexible to handle multiple tasks simultaneously that may at times have conflicting priorities. Must possess the ability to work under pressure. Flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.

Equipment Used : Various software programs including Microsoft Office suite.

Working Environment :

90% of the time is spent in the manufacturing plant under somewhat undesirable working conditions. Exposed to odor, noise, dust, heat, cold and other elements with no element continuously present to the extent of being disagreeable. 10% of the time is spent in an office setting environment.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS

  • Regular contacts with subordinates and other departments on supervisory matters and coordinating maintenance and repair, requiring tact to avoid friction and obtain cooperation.

  • Work with confidential data of major importance such as production capacities and product details which if disclosed to outside contacts may be detrimental to organization interests.
